Letting go: Selling your Wedding Dress
There is a unique bond between a woman and her wedding dress. The spell is cast the moment we try ”the one” on in the store. It blinds us to it’s cost, it haunts us until it arrives and with that dress we are transformed like Cinderella on our wedding day. But after the honeymoon, the clock strikes midnight and real life comes back. At this point former brides are left with a decision; Should I sell my dress?
Most brides want to hold onto their gown after the wedding is over. Sometimes it is for the sake of tradition, or the dream that her would be daughter could wear it, or perhaps it is just the need to keep the most special wedding memento close. The thing is, in most cases close equals the bottom of the closet or collecting dust in the attic. And think again about your daughter wearing your dress, did you want to wear the seventies inspired gown that your mother treasured? Or better yet, what if you are blessed with three boys!
More and more, brides are choosing to sell their dresses after the I do’s, including myself. Why? Because the benefits of breaking the spell and saying goodbye outweigh any reason for keeping it.
1. The obvious benefit is to reap the financial rewards. Use the profits from your dress to purchase a new suit or evening attire that you will use for special occasions for years to come!
2. Let someone else share in the magic of your wedding gown.
3. Save space in your home. This will go a long way with the husband!
Remember, the memories of how you felt in that dress on your wedding day are in your heart, not in a box. And if you forget, pictures will tell you the whole story.
So now that you decided to sell your dress, how do you go about doing it?
There are a number of online sites who specialize in pre-owned wedding dress sales. You can post an ad on them for a small fee. Try www.preownedweddingdresses.com or www.usedweddingdresses.com. Another online option is Ebay, but you will want to consider placing a minimum bid. On the local level, seek out a dress re-seller or place an ad in the paper.
Goodluck selling and may your wedding gown brighten someone elses day.
